Founder of Pink Weddings Magazine comments “As usual I out of the UK and in a very sunny and warm New York City excited about Gay Pride and the LGBT Leadership Gala with host speaker President Obama. All seems to perfect especially with our latest edition covering New York, but I guess that the luck of the draw. I can’t believe how time flies and our second edition has arrived so quick, I would like to thank everyone from our supporters to you the readers for helping make our magazine a huge success in such an early stage. I am so excited about this edition and uniting stories, venues and more from the UK to the good old US of a. This edition is packed with even more ideas, fashion tips, cocktails and some great real life stories from a couple in London to the amazing transatlantic couple. I wanted to ensure we bought you the very best the wedding market has to offer same sex weddings, continue to grow and help you with WOW factors and legal jargon.
I’m planning a wedding and I want to find a leprechaun and a grizzly bear for cake toppers.
I’m getting married in a year and I’m on a tighterish budget. I’m inviting 300 people to wedding reception and am looking for a banquet hall. Not going to have dj’s or a bar. Is there any place around the metro-detroit/ann arbor area that charges $20 a plate or less?
$20 a plate is possible — think maybe buffet or having more appetizers and less of an elaborate meal? My cousin has an extremely limited budget so she’s calling her wedding for just appetizers before the ceremony and dessert afterwards (late evening ceremony). So there are several ways to figure out your budget.
Also think about other ways to save so you can spend more on the food. Maybe get married in a park then you save money on the room rental. Use evites instead of paper invitations. Have people call you to RSVP instead of spending on postage…. etc. Think outside of the box!
The Arbor Area Convention and Visitors Bureau has an online wedding planner and a 9-page list of possible venues. You’ll have to do your homework and find out whether those locations fit your guest list expectations budget etc.
You may want to consider having your ceremony in one location and having the reception somewhere else depending on pricing and room capacities. Don’t disregard the University of Michigan — they have some lovely rooms for rent in a variety of buildings… Rackham Graduate Building and the Michigan League Ballrooms are particularly nice for dinner & dancing.
Another U-M possibility is the Botanical Gardens. They have a building where I have seen receptions happen before so they have done weddings in the past. They are probably better suited for small (less than 100 guests) weddings but call and check — they may be able to accommodate larger groups now.
Also time of year will make a big impact on your decision. If you’re planning for summer (May-September) you might consider one of the many parks around Ann Arbor. My personal favorite is Gallup Park right along Huron River. There are also the Metroparks just north of Ann Arbor. Hudson Mills is the best IMHO.
Hope that helps get you started. Get on the phone tell them your plans and see what you can come up with.
Congratulations and Good Luck!!
It’s an inside joke. Any ideas?
Check out etsy.com. There are a ton of artists selling their crafts and will custom make things for you. The link below is to one that does school mascots but I’m guessing she could easily make you what you want. You can email the artist and ask her questions. It’s not cheap (the one pictured is $100) but it will be a one of a kind keepsake.
